My mei mei was born on 14th April 2010 (Wed) at 7.32am. 2.59KG. 46cm long. At Thomson Medical Centre. Dr. Lawrence Ang. Paediatrician is Dr. Ong Eng Keow (though he was off on the day she was born). Room 523.
Mummy and Papa checked into the hospital at about 11pm on 13th April 2010 because Dr. Ang said that it would cost the same whether they checked in at 6am on the 14th or anytime after 11pm the previous night. So, they decided to enjoy the room a little longer.
They wanted to stay in a standard single room but Dr. Ang's nurse didn't change the booking to single bedded room cos Dr. Ang always automatically book 4-bedded room, which will be auto- upgraded to 2-bedded room. His patients will still pay for only 4-bedded. But Mummy wants Papa to stay with her so only one-bedded rooms allow that. Anyway, there were no more standard single-bedded rooms that night and so they stayed in a Premier Single Bedded Room, which is $158 plus GST more per night. Of course they might have chosen to change the room on the second day if there are available standard single but Papa decided to pamper Mummy by staying in the existing room.
God blessed them with a 2- bedded Premier room which has 2 flatscreen TVs and Papa gets the same bed as Mummy (as opposed to sleeping on a couch with a study table in a normal Single Room). And there is a touch-screen terminal which has free internet access (though the touch screen quite irritating cos not very accurate), and a small kitchen top area which just has a kettle and free coffee/tea/milo thingy. And of course the decor is nicer I suppose... Otherwise, the size of the room is about the same as the Standard Single.
Mummy was so excited she couldn't really sleep. Went to bed around 1am, woke up at 5.15am cos at 5.30am the nurse was coming to make Mummy poo. But Mummy woke up so many times during the night. Anyway, before the surgery started, Mummy's blood pressure was really high at about 158, which is not normal for Mummy cos Mummy's blood pressure is usually ok. It continues to remain quite high from then on.
Things happen fast for a C-Sect operation. Mummy was wheeled to wait outside the operating theatre at about 7am. Then wheeled in at about 7.10am to be anesthetized at the spine and insert the urine catheter. The anesthetist asked Mummy if she was nervous and she said yes. So Dr. Loo gave her the gas to relax her while he injected about 4 times in her spine. Man, did she become high and drowsy after that. After than things happened quite fast. Dr. Ang came in and very soon he started to cut Mummy up and at 7.32am, Mei Mei was pulled out! Mummy didn't feel as much tugging this time round.
Papa said that Mei Mei cried more than me, and like me, the voice was so muted. I think cos there were lots of things stuck in her throat. She is so much smaller than me! Cute also lah. :)
Mummy was very drowsy the whole day and the whole body was itching like mad. Probably reacting to the anesthetics or IVF or the gas. She felt much better after they got rid of the IVF the following morning.
Mummy and Papa like having the operation so early because Papa was awake the whole day to help Mummy and they were able to rest before visitors arrived earliest by Pastor Kee Oon at 3.30pm, Xin Yi later, and the rest coming in from 5 - 8pm plus.
I reacted well to Mei Mei. It was evident that I love Mei Mei cos I loved to carry her and sayang her, and kissed her. And shushed others to be quiet so that Mei Mei won't be frightened. I even knew how to push Mei Mei's hand away from her nose so that Mei Mei didn't suffocate herself. I think Mei Mei is very cute. I also didn't want others to carry her cos I wanted to carry her all the time.
